This department’s core functions include managing the state’s socio-economic and development planning system deciding what state plans should be produced, as well as translating and adapting federal, economic and development policies. The department also oversees and guides the state government in strategic and macro-economic policy making including interpreting and fleshing out the policy agenda of government. It translates and interprets for state use, planning policy and guidelines from federal level, producing overall plan guidance frameworks on the scope, content and process of plans. They facilitate and support planning in ministries, departments and agencies (mdas) thereby producing integrated state plans. Its functions further include coordinating the various mdas in designing medium term sector strategies (mtss), preparing the medium term expenditure framework (mtef) and multi-year budget framework (mybf) for critical sectors of the state economy (agriculture, education, health, infrastructure etc) as well as capacity building for planning, research and statistics (prs) staff.
